Project Syria
Project Syria, released in 2013, is a groundbreaking journalistic experience developed by the World Economic Forum and the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts. Using cutting-edge virtual reality, the project immerses players in the harsh realities faced by children caught in Syria’s civil war. Real audio and video footage from a real-life event bring the story to life, placing users directly in the middle of the crisis. With over half of Syria’s 23 million people displaced, children represent more than half of the three million refugees living in camps or temporary shelters. Reports suggest children are increasingly targeted in the violence, making their plight even more urgent. Project Syria offers a powerful, empathetic look at the human cost of conflict, blending technology and storytelling to raise awareness about one of the world’s most pressing humanitarian issues. This experience remains a vital reminder of the impact of war on innocent lives.
