Journey to the Centre of the Cell
Journey to the Centre of the Cell offers an immersive VR experience that brings the inner world of a human breast cancer cell to life. Using high-resolution electron microscopy data, the project reconstructs the cell in 3D, allowing users to explore its structure and functions in a virtual environment. Players can walk through or inside the cell, gaining insight into cellular anatomy and the complex processes involved in nanoparticle internalization and movement. This educational tool is designed for VR platforms, primarily compatible with the HTC Vive, but also works with other SteamVR headsets like the Oculus Rift. Developed by the 3DVAL lab at the University of New South Wales, the experience is backed by the Australian Research Council’s Centre of Excellence in Bio-Nano Science and Technology. It’s ideal for students, educators, and science enthusiasts seeking a deeper understanding of cellular biology. Journey to the Centre of the Cell makes science interactive and engaging.
