19th-century Printing Press Experience VR
Step into the world of 19th-century printing with *19th-century Printing Press Experience VR*, a unique journey into the past. Take on the role of a printer using a virtual replica of William Morris’s original cast iron press, the very machine behind the creation of the *Kelmscott Chaucer*—a masterpiece of typography and design. This immersive experience lets you replicate the steps Morris took to print the works of Geoffrey Chaucer in 1896. Later, the press passed to Frederic Goudy, another legendary figure in typography, and together with Morris, it earned the nickname Kelmscott/Goudy Press. Now preserved at RIT’s Cary Graphic Arts Collection, the press has been brought to life through VR by a dedicated team led by Professor Shaun Foster and Curator Steven Galbraith. The project, supported by a BreakThru Grant, was developed by a group of talented students and creators, including Aidan Grant, Danielle Bertone, and others. This VR experience offers a hands-on look at historical printing.
