Role Playing
You Are What You Read
In *You Are What You Read*, players step into the shoes of a newspaper editor tasked with curating daily headlines from a mix of real and fictional news sources. The game challenges you to balance journalistic integrity with the need to keep your publication afloat, as not all stories are truthful or compelling. Drawing headlines from actual news outlets—both reputable and questionable—the experience reflects the real-world impact of misinformation. Integrity scores are guided by Politifact’s truth meter, adding depth to the ethical decisions you make. As you shape the narrative, the world adapts to your choices, revealing how media can influence perception and reality. Developed by Elise Xue, Whitney Fahnbulleh, Jessie Wang, Dinesh Ayyappan, and created during the Goethe Institut’s Art Games Jam in Boston, this title blends storytelling with critical thinking. It invites players to consider the consequences of fake news and the importance of responsible journalism. Experience how truth and bias shape our world.
