Explore the serene and mystical world of Xylophongos as an anthropomorphic fungus navigating a forest woven with hidden connections. Your mission is to restore broken links using your mycelium network, uncovering the secrets of the ecosystem and its inhabitants along the way. Developed by students, Xylophongos is an experimental serious game inspired by research on terminal care and the vital role of fungi in nature. As decomposers of lignin in dead wood, fungi act as natural caretakers, transforming decay into nourishment for new life—a metaphor reflecting on death, care, and interconnectedness. Through environmental interaction and thoughtful exploration, the game invites players to reconsider how society relates to aging, dying, and the cycles of life. With a calming atmosphere, handcrafted visuals, and immersive audio, Xylophongos offers a contemplative experience that blends ecology and empathy.
