Wee Beasties (prototype)
Wee Beasties (prototype) is a hand-drawn 2D platformer developed in under two weeks, where players control a mythical Scottish creature searching for its scattered offspring. The game blends aerial and ground-based movement, letting you bounce off walls, navigate underground tunnels, and soar through dynamic levels inspired by Scotland’s landscapes and folklore. Designed as a creative experiment, it incorporates playful mechanics like flight—similar to a cape system—alongside traditional platforming challenges. Artwork and music, rooted in Scottish culture, add a unique charm, with visuals crafted from paper sketches refined in Sketch and a banda sonora built from manipulated traditional tunes. Developed by Stuart Wallace, a Scottish game maker and father based near Brighton, the project reflects a gam jam-style approach, prioritizing experimentation over polish. If expanded, the game promises a richer world, diverse environments, and deeper mechanics while retaining its indie, DIY spirit. This prototype highlights the potential of small-scale, passion-driven projects. Wee Beasties showcases how creativity thrives.
