Wairepo Wetland Stories - Episode 1
Dives into the vital role of wetlands in sustaining ecosystems and combating climate change. Inspired by Sonja and Sen’s real-life wetland in Kawakawa, New Zealand, this game highlights how even small habitats support biodiversity and reduce flood risks. Designed by Jonas Hansen with art by Sonja van Kerkhoff and sound by Nora Hansen, it blends education and creativity. The first episode invites players to explore and protect these fragile environments through interactive storytelling. Rooted in the 2024 Kawakawa Wetland Residency, it’s part of a series including a card puzzle game (Episode 2) and a musical walk (Episode 3). The project aligns with global efforts to raise awareness about wetlands, as seen in resources from wetlands.org and sciencelearn.org. By playing, users learn how preserving one hectare can safeguard species and combat environmental decline.
