Taking Root - Academic Version
Invites players into a moving narrative about displacement and resilience. Set in a surreal, evolving world, the game follows a stone-like creature and its plant companion as they flee a once-vibrant environment overtaken by urbanization. Their bond drives every decision, blending emotional depth with cooperative jugabilidad. Players guide this duo through intricate, perspective-driven puzzles that challenge conventional thinking and highlight the importance of empathy. The game’s art and sound design mirror the protagonists’ emotional arcs, creating a vivid, immersive atmosphere. Developed as a bachelor’s thesis at the University of Applied Sciences Salzburg, *Taking Root* merges academic rigor with creative storytelling. Its unique mechanics encourage players to rethink problem-solving through collaboration and environmental awareness. With contributions from Pascal Patrice Vincent, Sarah Hagleitner, Vivienne Estella Depauli, Benjamin Kunz, Cedric Elias Ferstl, Helen Hinrichs, Michael Paul Thelonious Hamel, and Sophie Marie Hennerbichler, this project stands out as a testament to innovative game.
