自梳:消逝的姑婆屋 Self-Comb Women: Home Left Behind
Self-Comb Women: Home Left Behind is a first-person walking simulator that blends real-world environments with historical narratives. Set in traditional Cantonese buildings from the Pearl River Delta, the game invites players to explore forgotten stories through immersive environments. Players interact with objects like books, cameras, and flashlights, uncovering clues in rooms designed for full accessibility. The game features meticulously scanned real-world scenes, delivering high visual fidelity and rich historical depth via letters, photos, and maps. Drawing from oral histories and field research, it highlights the folklore, architecture, and culture of unmarried women—known as Gupo Wu—who lived in collective spaces called Gupo Wu. These buildings, once vital for elder care and community life, are now at risk of disappearing. By merging archival research with jugabilidad, the project brings marginalized female histories to a wider audience. Every location in the game is based on on-site scans of Gupo Wu sites, preserving their legacy. This experience offers both a cultural journey and a unique exploration of forgotten traditions.
