RE-ANIMATED
Invites players into a 15-minute meditative VR journey that revives the memory of the extinct Kaua‘i ʻōʻō bird and its vanished Hawaiian habitat. Combining biological traces and the bird’s final 1975 mating call, the experience blends reality and digital artistry to create a magical-realist portrait. Developed with exclusive access to the American Museum of Natural History and Cornell Lab of Ornithology archives, it merges scientific research with creative vision. Based on insights from ornithologist Douglas H. Pratt, the project reflects on technology’s role in preserving natural history. The virtual world, crafted through 3D scans and field research, features music by Michael Riesman, blending field recordings with a painterly aesthetic. Recognized at the Venice Biennale and exhibited globally, RE-ANIMATED transcends traditional media, offering a museum-quality experience. It’s not a game but a profound exploration of memory, loss, and innovation. This is a landmark piece that redefines how we connect with.
